Non-profit activitiesDiaspora communities can contribute to the development of their home communities in many ways, for example by setting up educational and health facilities. Active encouragement of such activities by the Chinese authorities has led to a flood of foreign investment on the part of the Chinese diaspora. In contrast, restrictive regulations in India have hampered diaspora investment in non-profit activities. Can non-profit activities such as the ones in China be encouraged in other countries of origin as well? What would be the role of the migrant sending countries or the international community in such a process? |
